Chughtai’s short story ‘Gharwali’ and starring Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan, ‘Lajjo’ will commence filming in November 2006. It is a movie that derides the institution of marriage – like the recently released KANK – and that renegotiates the manwoman relationship, one where the woman philanders. Now, in an uphill progression, the Indian audience is coming around to the idea of paying to see their favourite stars in movies that are experimental; that lack forced song-and-dance sequences (oft en times in the rain) and without hackneyed dialogue (of course ,filmmakers still feel compelled to include at least one juicy dance number).
