Desired In Telecom

Max, apparently, did not see itself growing as desired in telecom. In that sense, it was a decision that even Hutchinson Chairman Li-Ka Shing (widely regarded as a master of the game) would smilingly endorse. Interestingly, the group then decided (after 16 years of existence) that it was time for “introspection, study & self-definition.” They took the services of Mckinsey (reportedly, Mckinsey asked Analjit to write his own obituary so he could get clarity on that!). Three new business areas were identified: Insurance, healthcare & clinical services. Max was reborn... And how are they faring?

ALL SET TO SQUASH THE REST…!

The Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has been caught joking that Nicol David is 'now more famous than me' and well the world’s no. 1 women squash player sure is a superstar in her home country. Nicol’s the only female squash player to have won the World Junior title twice, the first Asian to win the British Open in 2005 and is the current champion of the British Open and World Open. This pretty petite squash princess is bound to hog the limelight for more reasons than just being the flag bearer at the closing ceremony.

Lame Duck

What’s amazing is the extent to which insiders still cringe before a lame duck with a 60% disapproval rating. Look at what seems to have happened to the Iraq Study Group, whose mission statement says that it would provide an “independent assessment.” If press reports are correct, the group did nothing of the sort. Instead, it watered down its conclusions and recommendations, trying to come up with something Bush wouldn’t reject out of hand. In particular, says Newsweek, the report “will set no timetables or call for any troop reductions.” All it will do is “suggest that the president could, not should, begin to withdraw forces in the vaguely defined future.”
