“All in Ones Will Remain a Major Focus”

Alex Li, VP, HSB (Home & SMB), Lenovo India

B&E: Where is the demand largely coming from for the Desktop and Laptop segment?
Alex Li (AL):
Netbooks are increasingly becoming rampant and are convenient, functional and practical devices. While Netbooks are primarily targeted at the consumer segment, there is a small window of demand coming in from the education and enterprise segments as well. Going forward, we expect to see more innovations in Netbooks in terms of looks, features and functions. At Lenovo, we are constantly working on strengthening our Netbooks portfolio with more utility value by increasing the battery life, providing additional connectivity options such as incorporating 3G capabilities and giving greater disk storage to consumers. Recently, we launched our all new Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3s Wind and Moon Netbooks. These product launches proved to be smashing hits amongst consumers. In fact, they have emerged as some of the most sought after products by both the youth as well as the women segments.

B&E: So, is the tablet the next big bet?
AL:
With the increase in IT spending, the PC market has evolved and is becoming more dynamic. As a result of this trend, not only are PC vendors adding more features but are also introducing newer products - like tablets. Tablets are the latest innovations from PC makers; offering more flexibility for consumers. Currently, there is a boom in consumer demand for compactness, yet sophisticated, rich features in a PC. This consumer demand is the key driver for the growing sales of tablet PCs in India. From Lenovo’s perspective, we will continue to focus on understanding the evolving needs and preferences of consumers and bring out new, innovative products packed with high functionality, features to address their requirements. Recently, with PC players and new vendors entering the tablet segment, the Indian market has started to open up and accept tablet PCs. Presently in the market, we have a very attractive tablet PC the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t, the world’s first multi-touch capacitive tablet. The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t redefines what a Netbook should be by combining portability, style and industry-leading technologies. Users can easily access applications with the touch of their fingers. In addition, they can also swivel the screen, which allows them to use it as a touch tablet. At Lenovo, we aim to give the user a complete experience. We closely monitor market trends, identify latent requirements if any and offer users a wide range of products at various price points.
